La rentrée (back to school in French), is my favourite time year. When I was a kid, going back to school meant new clothes and shoes, fresh supplies, and of course catching up with old friends. In adulthood, it has meant something completely different: FREEDOM! After, two uninterrupted months with your kids some parents (remember this is a no- judgement zone) actually look forward to the start of the new school year.
This year, as the kids are getting re-adjusted to being in school. I have decided to get my learn on as well. I will not be going to a “real” university or anything- because well that cost money that I just don’t have at the moment. However, I will be attending Le Divorcée University with a major in GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER and minoring in FINANCIAL FREEDOM.
I have always been a voracious reader and I have bought so many self-help books during this process, that I could open a book store. Over the last two years, I have started a few of these books but I never seemed to finish them. It’s not because they weren’t interesting, quite the contrary. I just wasn’t ready to receive the information they contained. I wanted to get divorced so bad that I was only focused on fighting the battle with my ex. Now I am shifting that focus to myself and I am going to put all those books to good use.
I have designed an ambitious course load for my maiden semester. The classes include: Philosophy, Money Matters 1, Money Matters 2, Life Hacks, and Enhancing Your Craft. I realized that the time is going on and focusing all my energy on the past is not helping me get to where I need to be. I am not giving up by any means, just getting my priorities straight.
It’s never too late to learn something new or improve on what you already know. If you want to attend Le Divorcée University, just pick up one of the following books:
- A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle
- The Power of Broke by Daymond John
- You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero
- Abundance Now by Lisa Nichols
- A Writer’s Workbook by Caroline Sharp
